At least in recent memory, this design choice seems to be a unique one. It’ll likely go a long way in keeping Godfall unique, outside of its Looter Slasher designation, and it’s an impressive one to boot. Looking at the revealed Valorplates like Silvermane or Phoenix are proof of this, and their zodiac inspirations are clear.

Godfall’s 4 Confirmed Valorplates
Perhaps the most well-known Valorplate is the Silvermane, which has appeared in practically all promotions of the game. Silvermane is clearly based on the zodiac Leo in this regard, not just due to its lion design, but it’s forefront presentation lining up with the “natural born leader” aspect of the sign. Further, the world of Godfall is divided into 5 elemental realms, so since there is a fire realm and Leo is a fire sign, there’s likely to be some connection there.
Phoenix is another one of the confirmed Valorplates, and while it’s a bit harder to immediately narrow down, it’s likely lining up with the Scorpio sign. Scorpios are most commonly associated with scorpions, but it also syncs up with snakes and the phoenix. Although it would seem like a fire sign, it’s actually a water one while drawing power from a psychic, emotional realm with strong clairvoiyance. In other words, Phoenix sounds like a very dexterous class, at least opposed to the bulky Silvermane.
Seemingly joining the Silvermane as a fire sign, the Greyhawk is based on the Aquarius, and its owl design lines up with many philosophies of an Aquarius. As an air element, it would seem Greyhawk would have speed behind its design choices.
The most recently-revealed Valorplate is the Hinterclaw, a wolf designed Valorplate seemingly based on the Pisces. Its icy design seemingly lines up with the water element of the sign, as it seems much more fluid and rogue-like than some Valorplates in comparison.
Godfall’s 8 Unconfirmed Valorplates
Of course, the big question is: what about the 8 other Valorplates that have yet to be revealed? Godfall will likely shine more light on these soon, but by looking at the signs’ animal and element, it’s possible to narrow these down somewhat. At least, this is possible in terms of pure speculation. For example, the Taurus sign is rather obvious. It would seemingly imply that a Bull-designed Valorplate is in the game, and with earth as its element, it’s likely to be one of the better tanks in the game. Whereas the Silvermane appears to be bulky, it may be the difference between a charismatic control-based approach vs. the ability to take loads of damage easily.
Sagittarius is commonly associated with the Centaur and is a fire element. It seems unlikely this design will be so on the nose, but players should expect it to be an eloquent extended-ranged character with powerful attacks, based on this information. Ranged weapons haven’t really been confirmed as part of Godfall’s gameplay, though, meaning it may be best to rely on its abilities and opt for something like a Polearm to keep enemies back.

Gemini is an air sign, often represented by the twins. Many associate deer with the sign, so a deer-based Valorplate doesn’t seem impossible as the Antlers would be a nice touch. On the other hand, the duality may somehow be represented with a two-faced helmet or something of that nature. As an air sign, it would likely take an approach not unlike the Greyhawk, but perhaps with the ability to create clones as distraction. Again, this is just speculation, but it would represent the speed and dual nature of the Gemini.
Cancer is a water sign based on the crab, but it seems unlikely fans should expect a crab-based Valorplate. Instead, it may be something like a nautical design with a heavier emphasis on the nature of water than the Scorpio. Cancers are also described as those who avoid conflict, making another ranged character in terms of abilities.
Virgo is an earth sign, but one of that completely different from the Taurus. Virgo would perhaps play something more like a druid with abilities based on the world around it, and if Cancer take a nautical design, it would seem likely that the Virgo would take a more druidic, plant and life-based design. Again, there’s not a lot known about the Valorplate’s abilities, but a Virgo would also seem like a natural healer.
Aries is based on a ram, and like the Taurus and Leo, a ram-based Valorplate seems like the obvious response here (and may be the teased image above?). It is also a fire sign, and one that seems like would be based around aggressive gameplay. The Aries character may very well have a big attention to DPS and damage-dealing than the Leo based on the subtle differences of each fire sign.
Libra’s symbol may be hardest to manifest into a Valorplate, as it is a set of scales. However, as an air sign based on intelligence, it’s likely to be something akin to a classic Judge design. It would stand out from some of the others, but that’s what Libra’s sort of do. As with most air signs, it seems, it wouldn’t likely favor the up front nature of a single blade unless it had to, so it’ll be interesting to see how these signs in particular manifest in Godfall.
Capricorn is the final sign to round out the 12 Valorplates and Zodiac signs in this analysis, but it’s perhaps one of the strangest. It is earth sign based on an old myth of a half-goat (upper), half-fish (lower). Its design seems covered in other areas, but the Capricorn is supposedly adept at both the spiritual and earthly realm. This could easily be one which Counterplay Games takes some liberties and focuses more on the spiritual aspect of the character, as it may do with others as well.
Either way, fans should hopefully get more information on these Godfall Valorplates as next-gen consoles are rapidly approaching.
