As such, here is how you can use a registry hack to set up an Advanced Startup Options shortcut from the context menu.
How to Add a “Boot to Advanced Startup Options” Option to the Windows Context Menu
To make this possible, we’ll have to use the Registry Editor.
To open it, click Start and type regedit in the search box. Then, click on Registry Editor in the search results to open the app. When the UAC (User Account Control) prompt comes up, click Yes to bypass it.
In the Registry Editor’s left panel, navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > DesktopBackground > Shell. Right-click the Shell key and select New > Key.
Name this key you just created AdvancedStartup. Then, right-click the AdvancedStartup key, select New > String Value (it will appear in the right panel), and name it MUIVerb.
Double-click the MUIVerb entry, enter Boot to Advanced Startup Options in the text box for Value data, and click OK.
Right-click the AdvancedStartup key again, select New > String Value, and name it Position. Then, double-click the Position string value, enter Bottom in the text box for Value data, and click OK.
Next, let’s add the command to boot into Advanced Startup Options. Right-click the AdvancedStartup key in the left panel, select New > Key, and name it command.
Double-click the (Default) string value in the right panel, paste the below command in the text box for Value data, and click OK:
That’s it. Now when you access the context menu from the desktop by right-clicking on an empty space, you’ll see Boot to Advanced Startup Options as one of the options. Of course, Windows 11 users will have to click Show more options to get to it.
When you click Boot to Advanced Startup Options, the computer will shut down, and when it turns back on, you’ll be greeted by the Advanced Startup Options menu.
How to Remove “Boot to Advanced Startup Options” from the Windows Context Menu
Removing the option to boot into ASO from the right-click menu is easy. Just open the Registry Editor again and delete the AdvancedStartup key.
This will delete all the string values, including the one that contains the command.
Booting Into the Advanced Startup Options Menu the Easy Way
With the power to boot into Advanced Startup Options from the context menu in your hands, we hope accessing the menu is a little less painful now. You’ll need to add a few values to the Windows Registry, but it’s nothing too hectic.
And if the Registry route isn’t for you, perhaps the other ways to boot into the ASO menu will work better for you.
